8 Journal Prompts For Spring Business Planning

Use the energy of Spring as a catalyst for change—not overwhelm.

The start of spring comes with lots of high-energy expectations.

When I hear the term “spring fever,” I don’t just think of the constant longing to be outdoors, soaking up the sun. I think of the overwhelming amount of things I “should” be doing this spring that make me feel a little stir-crazy.

(Both personally and professionally.)

Perhaps you’ve had some of these thoughts lately too:

  • I should be spring cleaning.
  • I should be planting seeds in my garden.
  • I should feel highly motivated by now.
  • I should be busy with new work and new clients.
  • I should be more organized to handle new clients coming in.

  • My business should be blooming right now.

And if you’re a neurodivergent creative like me, then these high expectations, paired with the end of a very slow winter season, will likely make you freeze-up due to the overwhelm and anxiety they bring. Instead of dealing with these thoughts of discontent, we often become so consumed by them that we just shut down completely.

Corporate America generally tells us to simply “snap out of it” and hustle toward our goals, but let’s be honest—chasing success while neglecting your mental wellbeing is just a recipe for burnout. Many entrepreneurs experience high levels of stress, anxiety, and imposter syndrome. It’s not a sign of weakness—it’s a normal reaction to the pressure. Isolation, long hours, and constant self-doubt can take a serious toll.

But spring symbolizes renewal, growth, and fresh starts. It’s the perfect time to reassess your goals, practices, and mindset. For me, I found my mental health footing again by journaling.

I started journaling as a way of taking time back for myself. (As a writer and service provider, I’m almost always writing exclusively for others.) Throughout the journaling process though, I found I was also organizing my thoughts, tracking my mood shifts, and setting daily goals. And I started feeling better and better. It didn’t have to be anything well-written, but journaling needed to be the first thing I did every day to help me get out of bed, conquer the overwhelm, and set goals for my day.

So! In the spirit of fresh starts, I’m going to encourage you to do the same. You certainly don’t need to be starting a daily journaling practice or anything (though I do recommend it.) But I invite you to take some time today to organize your thoughts and clear the anxious “fever” that comes with spring.

Remember, your mental health is just as important as your business success. By prioritizing your wellbeing, you’ll not only be a healthier entrepreneur but also a more effective and resilient leader.  As we move into spring, let’s embrace this time for growth—both in our businesses and in our minds.

From one small business owner to another, you got this! Happy writing. 🙂
